AGM 2012

Birmingham University Conservative Future will be holding its next Annual General Meeting on Friday 9th March 2012 in Birmingham, to elect a new committee, which will be responsible for BUCF for up to the next 12 months. Six positions will be up for election this year, including all positions from the 2011-12 period.

Nominations for the AGM closed at midday on Friday 2nd March. Valid nominations were received for all six candidates on the 2012-13 committee.

President

Candidates

  • Emily Hilditch 

The president is the leader and public face of BUCF, and sets the agenda for the society. They are responsible for managing and coordinating the work of the committee, and speak for the society to the outside world.  They chair the committee, structure the way it works, and decide the individual areas of responsibility of its members. The incumbent President is Rosie Anne Hatch who has served on the committee since May 2011.

Vice President

Candidates

  • Owen Williams

The Vice President works closely with the President of the society. In addition to taking on the responsibilities of the President in event of their absence, they work to support the work of the committee  by working on new projects and ideas, and share some of the workload of the President, at their discretion. The incumbent Vice President is Emily Hilditch who has served as Vice President since May 2011.

Secretary

Candidates

  • Harry Chitty

The secretary is responsible for all aspects of society administration. Such responsibilities include maintaining BUCF’s relationship with the Guild of Students, the national Conservative Future organisation and the Party. They support the work of the President by handling administrative aspects of BUCF work, events and projects, and ensure good communication and coordination within the committee. The incumbent Secretary is Christopher James who has served on the committee since May 2011.

Treasurer

Candidates

  • Laura Hutchinson

The treasurer is the head of finances for BUCF. They are responsible for budgeting for events and promotions, and ensuring the society maintains a good financial standing. They work closely with the Guild of Students to ensure BUCF funding is kept in accordance with Guild regulations and preserve funding agreements with the Activities and Development department, in addition to supporting the day to day work of the committee. The incumbent Treasurer is Edward Trafford who has served on the committee since May 2011.

Publicity and Media Officer

Candidates

  • Charlie Winch

The publicity and media officer is the chief of communication of BUCF, responsible for the public face of the society, and ensuring inclusion and communication between the committee and the membership. Responsibilities include publicity for BUCF events and projects to its members and the general public, management of BUCF’s message to the outside world and its online presence via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and bucf.co.uk, including all work required to keep online services running smoothly, the use of the BUCF name and branding by the society and on the Online Merchandise Store, and ensuring easy interfacing with the public. In addition to these duties, the Publicity and Media Officer also serves as the Blog Editor for the award winning BUCF Blog, overseeing contributions by its team of writers and encouraging new contributors to get involved. The incumbent Publicity and Media Officer is Owen Williams who has served on the committee since March 2010.

Campaigning Officer

Candidates

  • Ashley Kirk

The campaigning officer is responsible for all aspects of BUCF’s campaigning effort in Birmingham and nationwide, especially during election times. They will coordinate the use of BUCF’s resources for leafletting, canvassing and telecanvassing, working closely with Conservative Associations and the Flying Squad to ensure success for the Conservative Party in local elections, referenda and by-elections, and, in coordination with the Publicity and Media officer, ensure campaigning efforts are well-publicised to maximise members’ participation and enable the most efficient and effective use of the society’s campaigning force. This is a new role for 2012-13 so there is currently no officer in this position.
